A Study on Home Accidents in Families of Citizen´s Apartment of Seoul

Abstract
|
|
|
The investigator conducted this survey to find out home accidents of the 1,352 familiy member of 278 families living in citizen´s apartment by retrospective study during the period of August 1, 1972-July 31. 1973.
The results of survey werre as follows,
1) The total number of home accidents were 4,999 cases out of 5,951 total accidents of 278 families. Among home accidents, minor(small) accidents were 4,924 cases (84.5% of total minor accidents), fWhile heavy(big) accidents were 75 cases(59.5% of total major accidents).
2) Regardless of age froups, accidents due to piercing was 35.5% and insect bite was 34.8% of the total home accidents.
3) At the age group of 0∼1, 1∼4, 5∼9, 10∼14, 15∼24, 45∼64, over 65 years insect bite was the highest problem while the piercing was the the highest problem while the piercing was the first rank accidents in age group of 25-44 years.
4) The prevalence rate of home accidents/100 person surveyed by cause and age were as follows, Insect bite-442.7 cases in age group of 1-4 years, Piercing -320.8 cases in age group of 25-44 years.
5) The average prevalence rate of home accident per person per year was 3.7 cases in total, 83 cases in age group of 1-4 years.
6) Home accidents to female members of the family were 2.5 times higher than male in total. Piercing accident on female was 21.1 times higher than male while burning in female was 5.1 times higher than male.
7) Cause of poercing due to knife was 49.9%, needle was 43.9%.
8) Burning from electric appliance was 29.1%, hot objects was 28.2% and hot liquid was 23.9%.
9) Management agter home accident were as follows;
a) visited physician-1.1% of total
b) treatment period-2.7 days in 65.1% of the total
c) cost for treatment-\100 in 65.5% of the total
d) healing-99.9% of the total
e) deceased-0.04% of the total
10) The lower the monthly income of the family and the lower the educational level of the household head, the more home accident in the family. There was little relationship between the home accident and the job of the housegold head. There was more potentiality of home accident to the children under five year of age in case the mother has to work at outside of home and little relationship with his mother´s educational level.
